Big Butte Amenities
This peaceful 90 acre retreat is nestled in the heart of Western North Carolina about an hour southwest of Asheville. It is the perfect place for any kind of weekend getaway from weddings and family reunions to leaf season and office parties.

This mountain retreat is bordered by the east fork of the Pigeon River and the national forest. There are two rustic lodges next to the river, two log cabins, a secluded swimming pond, and amazing mountain views. Throughout the property there are amazing uninterrupted views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Outdoor enthusiasts and those wanting to be among nature's peaceful serenity find comfort and joy here.

Our Guest Photo page has a video tour one of our guests made describing Big Butte's amenities.

The Lodges
Two residential complexes are located side by side next to the river. One's called the "Lodge" consists of the main assembly area for dining next to a large fully equipped kitchen including all dining and cookware, and washer/dryer. Down the hall are several rooms with 8 total beds, two bathrooms, lofts, and a lounge area by an impressive stone fireplace. The neighboring "Big Butte" offers several rooms in a two-story classic log cabin. There is a central seating area with a lofted sleeping area above, a total of six beds. This section includes a full bathroom and a passage way leading to the decorated private "Butterfly" bedroom and master bath.

Mini Buttes
These individuals rooms and gathering areas are interconnected amongst themselves and to "Big Butte". There are five private bedrooms with two bathrooms, all with views of the mountainous scenery.

Little Butte
This loft style cottage has two bedrooms, two full baths, a fully equipped kitchen, its own washer/dryer, dining area, and living room with a nice pull-out couch. Inside features a romantic stone fireplace. You will find Little Butte on the left as you travel up the hill about halfway up from the Lodge to the Pond.

Marty Butte a.k.a. "John Wayne"
After passing Little Butte, Marty Butte is up the gravel road on the left. Located at the back of a field this secluded log cabin is decorated by many tributes to John Wayne in the two main rooms and kitchen. There are four beds and a full bath and compact kitchen with dining and cookware, and a sizable fireplace. Marty Butte is the smallest of the dwellings, but offers some of the best mountain views of "Cold Mountain".

Trout Pond
This stocked pond is perfect for a summer swim and escape from a fast paced world. This pond is located above the hill and offers some of the best views around. Fishing is encouraged, but remember, Catch-and-Release is the policy! The flat plateau located above the pond has amazing mountain views and would be an ideal outdoor wedding location.

Surroundings
Big Butte is an hour outside of Asheville, 40 minutes from Brevard, 30 minutes from Waynesville, and only 4 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are many hiking trails and fishing spots nearby with excellent restaurants in the surrounding cities.
